Public Space Recycling Statistics

  • 40% of recycling occurs away from home
  • One of every three bottles are consumed on the go making up 5-6% of the waste stream
  • 12% of public areas have recycling options
  • Curbside collection impacts public space recycling and vice versa
  • At this time, it costs more to collect than it pays to recycle in public spaces
  • It takes a consumer 15 seconds to select a product; it takes that same consumer 1.5 seconds to dispose of it.
